Naongashiing: The name "Naongashiing" translates to "Big Island" in Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe), reflecting the community's home on Big Island in Lake of the Woods, northwestern Ontario.
Treaty: The Anishinaabeg of Naongashiing are a signatory to Treaty 3 (1873) and are a member First Nation of the Grand Council Treaty #3, upholding the rights and responsibilities of their ancestors.
Population: The community has approximately 509 registered members, maintaining strong ties to their island homeland and ancestral waters of Lake of the Woods.
Location: Situated on Big Island in Lake of the Woods, Ontario, the reserve lands include Big Island 31D, 31E, and Lake of the Woods 31H, accessible by boat or winter road.
Culture & Economy: The Nation is committed to preserving Anishinaabe language and traditions while developing sustainable economic opportunities including aquaculture facilities, community care programs, and land management initiatives under the First Nations Land Management Act.
Governance: The Nation operates various departments including Education, Health, Ontario Works, and Community Care, serving members both on and off reserve through dedicated staff and programs.
